The implements for enjoying a cup of yerba mate in the form of miniature charms, is the feature of this vintage gaucho motif novelty pin of 800 silver, circa 1960s.
The chatelaine style South American brooch consists of a die-stamped silver oxen drawn covered wagon with figure, along with hanging silver charms comprising the traditional “bombilla” or straw, calabash cup, and tea kettle.
It measures approximately 1&1/4 inches at its widest point, and hangs just over 2 inches from top of wagon to base of longest charm, has a hooded c-catch, weighs 7.0 grams, and is marked “800”.
