Vintage Martha Sleeper Bakelite Drum Brooch Sweetheart Jewelry BOOK PIECE
So bright and colorful is this vintage bakelite brooch in the form of a field drum with drumsticks, attributed to Martha Sleeper, circa 1940s.
The vivid Art Deco novelty pin is patriotic "Sweetheart" jewelry, and appears in the book, “The Bakelite Collection” by Berkholz, under the collection of U.S. WWII jewelry.
The brooch itself consists of a Bakelite half drum which has oxidized over to time to colors of coral red and marbled yellow, and also has wax coated cotton cording, and two miniature wooden drum sticks suspended below.
* Please note that there are a few minor areas of missing wax from the cording as shown.
The drum has an embedded metal pinback, measures approximately 1&5/8 inches wide, and hangs 2 inches from top of drum to bottom of sticks -- while the drum sticks themselves measure approximately 2&9/16 inches in length.
The brooch in its entirely weighs 29.0 grams.
