Vintage 30s Cloisonné Scarab Earrings Egyptian Revival Art Deco Drops
Swingy drops of enameled cloisonné scarabs based on the 12th dynasty tomb jewelry of Princess Mereret, now on display at The Egyptian Museum in Cairo (see last pic), are featured in this pair of ancient Egyptian revival earrings from Germany, circa 1920s/1930s.
The Art Deco earrings consist of gold over brass metal with gold filled ear wires and lever back hooks for pierced ears – suspended with plump round drops in the form of scarab beetles with finely enameled cloisonné, simulating gemstone inlay in colors of lapis lazuli, turquoise, and carnelian.
The drops are double sided and are the same both front and back, with earrings in their entirety hanging approximately 1&1/4 inches, from top of hook to base of drop.
They have a total weight of 7.7 grams combined, with ear wires marked “GF”, along with “Ges. Gesch” (German registered mark) stamped within, and “Germany” marked in back.
