Perfect for card players – is this vintage articulated fur clip in the shape of an upside down basket, ‘spilling’ a set of seven winning aces, by Castlecliff and patented in 1950.
Known as “Cards in Basket” and designed by Willard Markle, it appears in the book Costume Jewelry 202 by Julia Carroll, and consists of an unsigned metal clip with gold toned base, inset with four small rhinestones and dangling cards – all aces and in the full suit of hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds.
The petite fur clip is unsigned and measures approximately 1&1/4 inches wide at its widest point and hangs about 1&1/2 inches total, has a hinged double-prong back, and weighs 12.5 grams, with a copy of the original patent shown (see last pic).
